Definition of meditation:

Meditation is the inner journey, spiritual journey toward yourself as pure consciousness.

Purpose of meditation:

To find your true nature, your self as pure consciousness, and bliss

Benefits of meditation:

The benefits of regular meditation are multiple; emotional and mental stability which leads to clarity in decision-making, peace of mind which will influence communcations and relationships, a freeing up of creative energy and a sense of self worth rekindled.  All these benefits will influence the whole lifestyle of an individual who will naturally radiate these qualities into society.  On a physical level, it was been proven that regular meditation greatly influences the metabolic processes in the body.  Regular meditation reduces high blood pressure, depression and anxiety.

Process of meditation:

Thoughts consume energy and create emotions and disturbances.  We use methods of concentration to not pay attention to our thoughts.  We can use a focus on our breath, a mantra or focus on an image.  Once we concentrate on something, then we can lend ourselves to meditation.

Techniques to meditation:

Sit in a comfortable chair or on the floor.  Keep your back straight as if there was a string from your buttocks to the top of your head.  (In time you can meditate lying down, walking or in any position), but this is the way to begin.  Relax your shoulders.  Begin to notice your breath.  Notice the rise and fall of your belly as you breathe.  Notice how the air feels as it goes through your nostrils.  Make no judgements, just notice.  As thoughts come into your mind, pay them no attention, just bring your focus back to your breath.
